A Set 17 launch overview of 13 playable comps sorted by launch strength, item direction, and cap timing, with links to detailed guides.
This overview is for climbing at the start of the new set: first choose a direction by power tier, then decide whether to force it based on opening items, frontline quality, econ augments, and how contested the line is.
What to remember
- check_circleAP item starts point toward Vex 95, Vanguard LeBlanc, and Anima Aurora.
- check_circleAD item starts point toward N.O.V.A. 95, Primordian Bel'Veth, Meeple Corki, and Kai'Sa/Fizz flex.
- check_circleComps built around 3-cost and higher units commonly use 3 Primordian or 2 Timebreaker as a bridge.
Power Tiers
T0.5: Vex 95, N.O.V.A. 95, Viktor flex, Mecha flex, and Vanguard LeBlanc.
High T1: Space Groove, N.O.V.A. Emblem carries, Meeple Corki, and Primordian Bel'Veth.
Mid T1: Kai'Sa/Fizz flex, Vanguard Teemo, Anima Aurora, and Stargazer reroll. At launch, as long as your items and unit hits line up, all of these comps have stable top-four potential.
1. Vex 95
Vex is a high-cap 5-cost carry that survived PBE. Pivot into her when you have many AP items, or when you already hit strong frontline quality like Rammus or The Mighty Mech in the mid game. Make sure to add Magic Resist shred or resistance shred later.
2. N.O.V.A. 95
Prioritize this Fast 9 board when you have a lot of AD items. Graves, together with N.O.V.A. Aatrox and Akali, gives the team resistance shred and crit access, making it one of the highest-cap AD endgames at launch.
3. Viktor Flex
This is one of the most important 3-cost reroll comps to watch at launch. The prerequisite is the right Psionic item direction, especially Drone Uplink. Pivot into it when you naturally hit many Viktors or get an augment that helps chase 3-stars.
4. Mecha Flex
ExpeditionsilverThis is the easiest direction to stabilize from a loss streak. Once The Mighty Mech and Aurelion Sol have items and the three Mecha units transform, your Stage 4 board is very solid. The last three slots usually include Tahm Kench. If you have extra fighter items, or The Mighty Mech and Aurelion Sol are temporarily missing items, play Master Yi and Viktor. If you are not missing items or have extra AP items, play Karma and Mordekaiser. If you hit many Urgots, build around Urgot with Maokai, Akali, and any Conduit unit.
The comp is very cheap: once both 4-costs are 2-star, you can start saving gold. Later you can chase a 3-star 4-cost, go 9 for Morgana, or add more trait depth. If your economy is extremely good, replace Master Yi and Viktor with Fiora and Bard to raise the cap. Because the board is cheap, An Exalted Adventure is the strongest augment for it; feeding the full 33 gold gives a Radiant Reforger, and upgrading Gargoyle Stoneplate for The Mighty Mech makes it nearly unkillable.
5. Vanguard LeBlanc
If the Arbiter effect stacks Ability Power from basic attack count or damage instances, you can go for it directly. The frontline tanks with Vanguard, LeBlanc uses Guinsoo's Rageblade to keep stacking, and at level 8 a 2-star LeBlanc, Nunu & Willump, and Karma are enough to stabilize your HP.
6. Space Groove
Space Groove is much stronger with an Emblem. Prioritize fighter items on Riven, then after finding multiple 2-star 4-costs at level 8, go 9 and add Shen. Without an Emblem, Samira or Nami can carry the damage.
Without a Space Groove Emblem, build around hidden 4-cost Samira and use 2 Timebreaker with Ezreal as a bridge. Roll at level 8 for 2-star 4-costs, then go 9 with 2 Timebreaker and add Shen. If you have items, replace Pantheon with Riven. After finding Blitzcrank and Jhin, you can open 4 Vanguard, or keep playing toward the Timebreaker 10 payoff.
7. N.O.V.A. Emblem Carries
The core is to activate 5 N.O.V.A. and give the selector to an outside carry, letting that unit receive Attack Speed, Armor and Magic Resist, and the team buff. Once Fiora is 2-star, you can move Master Yi or Riven items onto her.
8. Meeple Corki
Playable when you have a Meeple Emblem or Pandora's Bench. 7 Meeple greatly increases your odds of hitting 3-star 4-costs. Position Bard, Corki, and Rammus close together so you get extra value from an additional Meeple summon at combat start.
9. Primordian Bel'Veth
This is one of the easiest 2-cost comps for beginners. If you open 3 Primordian and your items fit Bel'Veth or Akali, you can play it and roll at level 6 for 3-star 2-costs.
10. Kai'Sa/Fizz Flex
Feeling Luckysilver
Patience is a Virtuesilver
Slightly Magic Rollsilver
Heroic Grab Baggold
Jeweled Lotus Igold
Savings Accountgold
Care Packagegold
Calculated Lossgold
Exclusive Customizationgold
Wise Spendingprismatic
Prismatic TicketprismaticIdeally, you naturally hit Kai'Sa or Fizz at the start, and your items can support both damage points. The comp depends heavily on fully itemized Kai'Sa and Fizz, then chases multiple 3-stars at level 7.
11. Vanguard Teemo
One of the strongest 1-cost reroll options. Only reroll it when you high-roll the core units and have suitable items. At level 4 or 5, at least hit 3-star Teemo plus either 3-star Leona or 3-star Nasus, then level up and add more Vanguard units.
12. Anima Aurora
If Anima arrives early and you can cash out around 300 stacks, the comp is very strong. The standard level 7 version pairs Diana and chases 3-stars, but if the Arbiter effect is poor or you hit more Viktors, you can pivot into the Viktor version.
